The research so far

Two-thirds of heart disease and stroke clinical research has focused on men.

Together, we’re changing that.

Women are more likely to experience certain types of heart and brain conditions than men. They often have unique risk factors and symptoms that are less recognized, leading to delayed diagnoses and worse outcomes. This innovative research seeks to uncover these differences and develop better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies.

Our vision is a world where all women receive the care they need, when they need it. We believe care for women’s heart and brain health should be sex- and gender-appropriate, equitable, culturally relevant and safe.

Together with dedicated donors, Heart & Stroke is proud to accelerate advances to drive new knowledge to beat health inequity and drive meaningful change for every woman at every life stage.

Women’s research networks of excellence

The first of its kind in Canada, this research has life-saving potential. Heart & Stroke, donors and partners have funded the brightest minds in women’s research to address the gaps in risk factors, diagnosis and treatment that are common or under-studied in women.
