Nora and her twin brother Koa celebrate Christmas

Heart

“I want her to share her gifts with others.”

When you see Nora, you would never guess she had a heart transplant or congenital heart disease (CHD) – and that to me, is amazing. But I want people to know that CHD can affect anyone without a past family history. 1 in 100 babies are born with CHD. I want to spread awareness, so other mothers don’t have to be as afraid as I was when I learned that my baby had CHD. I was terrified since I had no knowledge or awareness about what a heart transplant would entail. But through research and by talking to others who had been through this – I understand that this disease does not define Nora. Anyone that meets her is instantly captivated by her charismatic personality and sweet smile.

Nora and her twin brother, Koa, turned 5 in November 2021, and Nora continues to defy odds and jump over obstacles placed in her way. My biggest hope is that Nora lives a long and healthy life, especially with the odds not in her favour. We want her to know that by being involved with Heart & Stroke, she can make a difference. Nora is a very special little girl and is truly, a gift. And I want her to share her gifts with others.
